Oceandivers Newsletter – April Highlights & What’s Coming Up
As April wraps up, we’re celebrating a huge month for our dive community — full of growth, achievement, and momentum heading into the summer season!
RESCUE COURSE: Cold Water, Big Skills
Our Rescue Diver candidates showed true grit and determination this winter, training hard in the National Aquatic Centre under the expert guidance of Dermot and Jordan. Their efforts culminated this April with final scenarios in the chilly but beautiful waters of Lough Owel in Mullingar.
This course was more than just a certification — it was about building vital watermanship skills that empower divers to take care of both themselves and their dive buddies in challenging conditions. We’re incredibly proud of Simon, Edguar, Jaoa, Michael, and our very own Flossie, whose dedication and focus were inspiring to watch. This team faced the cold, the pressure, and the complexity of rescue scenarios — and came out stronger, safer divers.
STAFF INSTRUCTORS
Over in Waterworld, a major professional milestone was reached as Ronan, Dan, and Richard successfully completed their PADI Staff Instructor training with Course Director Danny O'Reilly.
DIVEMASTER PROGRAM IN FULL SWING
At the same time, our Divemaster Program continues to thrive at the National Aquatic Centre, led by Staff Instructor Ronan Fahy. These future dive leaders are refining their skills every week, learning to manage groups, brief dives, and lead by example.
MAY: SCHOOLS HEAD WEST TO KILLARY
Looking ahead to May, we’re thrilled to be taking all of our Transition Year students west to Killary, where they’ll complete the training they’ve been working on all winter. For many of these young divers, it will be their first open water dives — an unforgettable introduction to Ireland’s stunning Atlantic coast.
Their journey from pool sessions to the ocean is what diving is all about: building confidence, connecting with nature, and becoming part of something bigger.
Want to join the crew on the trip west?
There’s still time to get involved — whether you’re training, tagging along, or looking to reconnect with the ocean this May. Come and be part of it.

Stay Warm, Dive Longer – Join Our PADI Dry Suit Specialty Program
Thinking about extending your dive season or getting more from your dives in Ireland’s cooler waters? The PADI Dry Suit Specialty is your gateway to warm, comfortable, year-round diving — and we’ve built the perfect program to get you there with confidence.
At Oceandivers, we deliver the course over:
Three pool sessions in the deep water pool at the National Aquatic Centre
PADI eLearning, completed in your own time
Two open water dives to apply your skills in real conditions
Whether you’re brand new to dry suit diving or want to get comfortable in your newly purchased suit, we’ve got you covered — literally! You can choose to use our premium dry suits or bring your own to build up confidence before your next big trip.
Important Note: Due to changes in PADI standards introduced two years ago, completion of the Dry Suit Specialty certification is now required to rent a dry suit from any PADI dive centre. This course ensures you're fully trained, safe, and ready to dive.
Join the crew learning how to dive warmer, safer, and for longer — and get ready to explore Ireland’s underwater world in comfort.
Looking Forward to May 10th in Connemara National Park
As we transition into May, our excitement grows for the upcoming adventures in the Connemara National Park. Spanning approximately 2,000 hectares, the park encompasses scenic mountains, expanses of bogs, heaths, grasslands, and woodlands.
