March 2025 Newsletter

What a month! March brought the energy — from our incredible Launch Night in Dún Laoghaire to an unforgettable weekend diving in Killary Fjord. Rain or shine (mostly rain), the spirit was high, the water was cold, and the adventures were flowing!

Here’s a quick look at what went down — and what’s coming up:

Launch Night Highlights – A Packed House & A Big Win!

Thanks to everyone who came out to The Purty Kitchen on March 22nd for our annual Oceandivers Launch Night. It was an amazing evening full of familiar faces, new friends, great prizes — and the official reveal of our 2025 dive trips. A special congratulations to Tomás, who was crowned Underwater Photographer of the Year! The entries this year were incredible, and Tomás’ shot stood out for its story, emotion, and creativity. Big thanks to Sarah Tallon for judging, and to all who entered.

Killary Fjord Weekend – Wild Weather, Wetsuits & Wins

We wrapped up the month with a wild and wonderful dive weekend in Killary Fjord. Rainy skies didn’t dampen the spirits — with Open Water, Advanced, and Dry Suit Specialty courses all running in true Connemara conditions. The visibility was solid, the dives were spectacular, and the post-dive chats were even better. We were thrilled to have Flossie from the amazing charity Flossie and the Beach Cleaners and her family diving with us, joined by her buddy Adam Carroll who helped film the weekend. Keep an eye out for their video on our socials — it captures the magic beautifully.

Ronan and Sara give their pre dive briefs in Killary Fjord

In March, our diving community embarked on an exhilarating journey to Killary Fjord, Ireland's only fjord, nestled in the heart of Connemara. This 16-kilometer-long fjord, carved by glaciers over 20,000 years ago, offers a unique diving experience with its sheltered waters and diverse marine life. Our divers explored impressive underwater landscapes, encountering vibrant marine species and honing their skills in this remarkable setting. The trip not only provided unforgettable underwater adventures but also fostered camaraderie among participants, with evenings spent sharing stories and experiences.

Looking Forward to May 10th in Connemara National Park

As we transition into Apri, our excitement grows for the upcoming adventures in the Connemara National Park. Spanning approximately 2,000 hectares, the park encompasses scenic mountains, expanses of bogs, heaths, grasslands, and woodlands. These excursions provide an excellent opportunity to appreciate the natural beauty of the region and observe its rich biodiversity.
