Oceandivers Newsletter – May Highlights & Summer Kickoff

Killary Fjord Comes Alive
This May, the west of Ireland played host to one of our biggest training pushes yet — over 120 students joined us in Killary Fjord to complete their PADI Scuba Diver and Open Water certifications.

Guided by our dedicated team of instructors and volunteers, these Transition Year students took their first giant strides into the open ocean. Many had never dived outside of a pool — and they left the west coast with new skills, new friends, and a fresh connection to the natural world.

We based ourselves in Letterfrack, nestled in the heart of Connemara National Park, with dives taking place in the pristine waters of Killary Fjord. It was a powerful reminder of the magic that happens when education, adventure, and nature come together.

Huge thanks to our crew, the schools, and everyone who helped deliver such a memorable experience.

UPGRADE COMPLETE: NEW WEBSITE + BOOKING PLATFORM LIVE

Behind the scenes, we’ve also been working hard to modernise how you book and interact with us online. We’ve now migrated our website and booking platform to a new provider, offering a smoother, faster, and more flexible experience for both local divers and those visiting from abroad.

We’re excited to roll out new features, easier course registration, and a more visual platform to better showcase our trips, training, and club activities. Big thanks to the design and integration teams who’ve helped bring this to life — with more updates on the way.

Are you ready to take your diving to the next level and join the top tier of recreational divers worldwide? The PADI Master Scuba Diver rating is the highest non-professional level in the PADI system – a true mark of dedication, experience, and underwater skill.

To achieve it, you’ll need:

  • PADI Rescue Diver certification

  • Five PADI Specialty courses

  • 50 logged dives

At Oceandivers, we’ll help you build a personalised training plan to complete the challenge at your pace – whether you're missing one specialty or starting from Rescue. From Peak Performance Buoyancy and Dry Suit to Night Diver, Wreck, or Search & Recovery, we run a wide range of specialties year-round to suit your goals and schedule.

Why do it? Apart from the prestige and skills, it’s a milestone that reflects your commitment and passion for diving. Less than 2% of divers ever achieve this level – are you ready to join them?

Stay Warm, Dive Longer – Join Our PADI Dry Suit Specialty Program

Thinking about extending your dive season or getting more from your dives in Ireland’s cooler waters? The PADI Dry Suit Specialty is your gateway to warm, comfortable, year-round diving — and we’ve built the perfect program to get you there with confidence.

At Oceandivers, we deliver the course over:

  •  Three pool sessions in the deep water pool at the National Aquatic Centre

  •  PADI eLearning, completed in your own time

  • Two open water dives to apply your skills in real conditions

Whether you’re brand new to dry suit diving or want to get comfortable in your newly purchased suit, we’ve got you covered — literally! You can choose to use our premium dry suits or bring your own to build up confidence before your next big trip.

Important Note: Due to changes in PADI standards introduced two years ago, completion of the Dry Suit Specialty certification is now required to rent a dry suit from any PADI dive centre. This course ensures you're fully trained, safe, and ready to dive.

Join the crew learning how to dive warmer, safer, and for longer — and get ready to explore Ireland’s underwater world in comfort.

Looking Forward to May 10th in Connemara National Park

As we transition into May, our excitement grows for the upcoming adventures in the Connemara National Park. Spanning approximately 2,000 hectares, the park encompasses scenic mountains, expanses of bogs, heaths, grasslands, and woodlands. These excursions provide an excellent opportunity to appreciate the natural beauty of the region and observe its rich biodiversity.
