Advanced

As a PADI Advanced Open Water diver you can expand your knowledge and skills allowing you to explore more exciting locations. Once you are ready for the challenge of advanced diving, this course will teach you the necessary theoretical and practical information to open the door to a wider world of adventure.

What does the course involve?

Unlike your Open Water Diver course, you will spend little time in the pool or classroom, instead the emphasis is on more practical skill development in open water which means more diving! On the first night, we use the fantastic deep pool facility in the National Aquatic Centre to practice buoyancy skills in a fun workshop. On this first evening you will also receive your Adventures in Diving manual if you haven't already. Your instructor will get you to complete the book's Knowledge Reviews for the dives you will be doing. It is important to have the relevant Knowledge Review complete before doing the dive to maximise your learning.

The Dives
On the subsequent weekends we take to the water in Dublin Bay for the Peak Performance Buoyancy and Navigation dives. These dives help develop some of the most fundamental of diving skills. They take place over one or two days depending on the time of year. These dives are followed by two of boat, drift, night or wreck depending on conditions available at the time. These introduce you to new adventures underwater whether it be flying in a current, visiting the site of a sunken ship, seeking out nocturnal marine life or using a boat to reach otherwise inaccessible sites. Again these two dives take place over one or two days. The final dive of the course is the Deep dive which brings you beyond the 18m limit of your Open Water certification and extends your range to 30m.

Mullaghmore
During the diving season, Dublin Bay has all the necessary features for you to have great dives on your Advanced Open Water course. Off-season however, when the bay is not as accessible, we offer you the opportunity to complete the final three dives on a one-night trip to Mullaghmore, Co. Sligo. There is an extra B&B charge for the weekend. More information is available from your iinstructor or the office.

Who can sign onto this course?

The PADI Advanced Openwater Course is open to anyone who is already an Open Water diver or who holds an equivalent qualification.

You must be in good health and reasonably fit plus you will need to have recent experience of diving in Irish conditions. If you have not dived in Irish conditions before, its' a good idea to complete an orientation dive just so you can get happy with the type of equipment and temperatures we generally encounter here.

What is included?

As part of the course fee you will receive the complete Adventures in Diving Crew Pack which contains all the materials etc which you will need to complete your training. We also include all the diving equipment required for the sea dives. At Oceandivers we believe that providing the best equipment to all students not only improves the safety of our programmes but also improves your comfort and enjoyment in the water. All items are regularly maintained and we replace all equipment every twelve months. All you will need to bring are swim suit and towel, we provide the rest.
